MEscope VES 5.1: A Powerful Tool for Vibration Analysis and Modal Testing
MEscope VES 5.1 is the latest version of the Visual Engineering Series of software packages from Vibrant Technology, Inc. MEscope VES is designed to make it easy for you to observe and analyze noise and vibration problems in machinery and structures using either experimental or analytical data.
With MEscope VES 5.1, you can import or directly acquire multi-channel time or frequency data from a machine or structure, and post-process it using various tools such as spectrum analysis, order tracking, waterfall plots, orbit plots, and more. You can also animate the response of a structure using operating deflection shapes (ODS) or mode shapes from modal analysis.
ODS analysis allows you to see how a machine or structure is moving in slow motion by animating the vibration data directly. You can easily identify excessive vibration levels and loose or damaged parts from an animated ODS display. Modal analysis allows you to extract the natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes of a structure from frequency response functions (FRFs). You can use modal parameters to understand the dynamic behavior of a structure and perform structural modifications or simulations.
MEscope VES 5.1 also supports vibro-acoustic analysis, which enables you to visualize the sound pressure distribution on a structure or in a cavity using acoustic shapes. You can also perform sound intensity mapping and sound power calculations using MEscope VES 5.1.
MEscope VES 5.1 is compatible with various hardware and software products from other vendors, such as HEAD acoustics, 4x Diagnostics, National Instruments, Bruel & Kjaer, LMS, Data Physics, and more. You can seamlessly transfer data from these products to MEscope VES 5.1 and vice versa.

MEscope VES 5.1 offers a variety of features to help you perform vibration analysis and modal testing with ease and accuracy. Some of these features are:
Mode indicators for counting modes. You can use either a complex mode indicator function (CMIF) or a multivariate mode indicator function (MMIF) to identify the number of modes in your data and set a noise threshold to filter out spurious peaks.
Frequency and damping curve fitting. You can use either the local or the global MDOF orthogonal polynomial method to estimate the modal frequency and damping for each mode. You can also use extra polynomial terms to compensate for out-of-band modes.
Residue curve fitting. You can use either the MDOF orthogonal polynomial method or the SDOF peak cursor method to estimate a modal residue (a mode shape component) for each mode and each measurement.
Quick fit. You can automatically execute all three curve fitting steps with minimal user interaction and get a synthesized curve fit function overlaid on each measurement to confirm the fit quality.
Modal assurance criterion (MAC). You can use a bar graph and spreadsheet of the MAC values between all mode shape pairs to check the consistency and orthogonality of your mode shapes. If MAC = 1, two shapes are the same. If MAC < 0.9, two shapes are different.
Shape difference indicator (SDI). You can use a bar graph and spreadsheet of the SDI values between all mode shape pairs to check the similarity of your mode shapes. If SDI = 1, two shapes have the same values. If SDI < 0.9, two shapes have different values.
Modal participation. You can display the real part, imaginary part, and magnitude of the modal participation factors that result when a set of shapes is curve fit to another set of shapes. You can also re-scale your mode shapes between residue and UMM mode shapes.
Data import and export. You can import and export your data using various formats, such as Universal File Format (UFF), Ansys, Emerson Process Management (CSI), FEMAP, LMS, I-DEAS, NASTRAN, Ono Sokki, Rockwell Automation Emonitor, Spectral Dynamics Star disk files, and more.
Video ODS. You can capture and document machine vibration using your cell phone or high speed camera and extract time waveforms and frequency spectra using MEscope Video ODSâ.
These are just some of the features that MEscope VES 5.1 offers to help you with your vibration analysis and modal testing tasks.
